NEC Has STATS All-Americans on Offense, Defense and Special Teams

A trio of Northeast Conference athletes earned spots on the 2017 STATS FCS All-America Third Team.

Duquesne offensive guard Ben Huss earned an All-America nod from STATS for the second year in a row. The four-time all-NEC lineman started all 11 games in 2017, running his career total to 44 starts. He was the leader up front for an offense that produced a league-high 6.1 yards per play. Huss also received All-America honors from the Associated Press, earning a place on the AP’s Second Team Offense.

Saint Francis senior cornerback Malik Duncan and Bryant sophomore kick returner Jean Constant are first-time STATS All-Americans. The former was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award after making 11 starts for the nation’s second-ranked defense in terms of pass efficiency rating. Constant, who ranked second overall amongst FCS all-purpose yards leaders, averaged 27.5 yards per kickoff return – the highest mark in the nation amongst players with at least 25 return attempts.

Linebacker and Offensive Guard Represent #NECFB in AP All-America Arena

Two all-Northeast Conference football players received All-America plaudits from the Associated Press.

Duquesne senior guard Ben Huss, who has been a mainstay up front for what’s perennially been one of the league’s most high-powered offenses, earned a spot on the AP All-America Second Team.

Bryant junior linebacker Tom Costigan, the 2017 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, garnered Third Team All-America honors from the AP.

Neither athlete had received All-America honors from the AP prior to this season, but Huss was named a STATS FCS Third Team All-American as a junior in 2016.

Huss makes its three straight seasons during which a Duquesne Duke has made an AP All-America Team. Linebacker Christian Kuntz, a two-time NEC Defensive Player of the Year, earned second team status in both 2015 and 2016.

Costigan is the first Bryant Bulldog to snag an AP All-America selection since 2014 when lineman Jeff Covitz, the program’s all-time sacks leader, earned a spot on the Third Team Defense.
