The #NECWBB on ESPN3 Game of the Week featured two teams residing in the upper half of the conference standings.
Central Connecticut and Robert Morris had already met this year with the former posting a 48-39 victory on January 25. CCSU held the Colonials, who shot under 30 percent from the field, to their lowest scoring output of the season. The loss was RMU’s second in a row and the team’s slide would eventually hit three straight losses.
Fast-forward two weeks and Robert Morris appeared to have rediscovered its way. Heading into Monday night’s grudge match against CCSU on ESPN3, the Colonials RMU had won back-to-back games including a 55-53 defeat of previously unbeaten Bryant two days earlier.
Central was hot as well, having won four of its last five games and coming off a 79-59 road rout of Saint Francis U.
What ensued in the Sewall Center was a sound effort from Robert Morris right from the start. The Colonials held an 18-9 advantage after one quarter and never looked back.
It wasn’t your average game, however. At one juncture, Robert Morris scored seven consecutive points without CCSU gaining possession.
Meanwhile, CCSU the half-court heave of all half-court heaves to beat the third-quarter buzzer.
Check out the highlights from Monday night’s featured contest with John Schmeelk and Kim Adams on the call. Also hear postgame comments from RMU’s leading scorer – guard Anna Niki Stamolamprou – and Colonials’ associate head coach Charlie Buscaglia.
