They didn’t have the chance to drink from the Commissioner’s Cup, but Phil Faccone and Nicole Sleith have plenty of reason to celebrate.
Having received a special invitation, the two student-athletes joined NEC Presidents, athletic directors and other officials at the 2015 Commissioner’s Spring Meeting Banquet. As part of the evening’s program, NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris recognized Faccone and Sleith for individual excellence in both the academic and athletic realms as well as leadership and contributions to one’s community.
Faccone, a Wagner football player, and Sleith, a Robert Morris softball pitcher, respectively received the inaugural NEC Men’s and Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year awards.
Both student-athletes were key pieces to winning teams.
Faccone, a two-time Sports Network All-American long snapper, competed for Wagner’s NEC championship teams in 2012 and 2014. Sleith, a three-time NEC Pitcher of the Year, helped Robert Morris to three first-place finishes in four years.
“I am so pleased to congratulate Nicole and Phil on earning this prestigious award. They are tremendous representatives of the NEC student-athlete community and epitomize the values of being a Division I college-athlete!” – Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner
