Neither has yet to make its way into the hands of a NEC student-athlete, but Keshaudas Spence, Troy Moore or Rob Hollomon can change that.
Those three NEC footballers are amongst the elite few who earned spots on the Sports Network’s Preseason #FCSawards Watch Lists.
Sacred Heart’s Spence and Central Connecticut’s Hollomon are two of 20 official preseason candidates for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented annually to the top player in FCS.
Spence rushed for a single-season SHU record 1,669 yards, the fourth-highest total in NCAA FCS, during the Pioneers’ championship run last fall. Hollomon won the 2013 NCAA statistical championship for all-purpose yardage thanks to his 189.17 ypg average.
Meanwhile, Moore, who is prepping for his senior season at Sacred Heart, is up for the Buck Buchanan Award. The honor, which is named after the Pro Football Hall of Famer, goes to the most-outstanding defensive player in FCS.
Moore, a do-it-all defensive tackle, logged 16.5 stops for a loss as a junior.
