The Matchup:  Saturday’s matchup, which will air live on ESPN3, will serve as the conference opener for both teams.  Saint Francis and Central Connecticut are coming off grueling non-league schedules, during which they each faced three FCS Top 25 opponents. Last year’s meeting in New Britain ended as a 32-30 victory in favor of CCSU, and this year’s edition should be fun as well.  The game features two of the top runners in FCS.  SFU running back Kyle Harbridge ranks first amongst national leaders in rushing average (188.3 ypg), while CCSU’s Rob Hollomon is a Preseason All-American averaging 204.83 all-purpose yards per game (fourth in FCS).

The Matchup: It’s the NEC preseason favorite against the team who was tabbed to finish last by the coaches’ poll, but neither team has been living up to those expectations this year.  Wagner, the defending NEC champion, finds itself mired in a four-game slump after dropping its conference opener at home to Bryant in Week 5.  Meanwhile, Sacred Heart has looked nothing like a last-place team over the season’s first five games.  The Pioneers are 5-0 for the first time since 2008 and lead Division I FCS in run defense (66.2 ypg allowed) and turnover margin (+14).

The Matchup:  These former NEC rivals meet in a non-league tilt at the Jersey Shore.  Robert Morris has won 10 of its 18 all-time meetings with Monmouth, which is an FCS independent this season.  The Colonials will look to build on the success they had at Big South member VMI in Week 5. Quarterback Paul Jones threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns in the double-overtime victory and will go up against a Monmouth defense allowing 249.0 pass yards per contest.

DUQUESNE vs. West Liberty

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Rooney Field)

Kickoff: 12:10 pm

The Matchup: Duquesne finally returns to work after their second bye week of the season, hosting Division II member West Liberty.  The Dukes enter the game with one of the nation’s top passing attacks.  Redshirt freshman quarterback Dillon Buechel (322.0 ypg) ranks fifth amongst FCS passing leaders.  Receivers Gianni Carter (21.9 ypc) and Dave Thomas (18.3 ypc) are both averaging more than 18.0 yards per catch through the season’s first three games.  West Liberty’s pass defense has been stingy though, limiting opponents to only 147.5 yards per contest.
