With #NECTipoff Nearly Upon Us, Overtime! Scans TV Listings, Preps DVR

The most wonderful time of the year.

For many, this simple phrase signifies the start of the holiday season.  While we enjoy the holidays as much as anyone here at the Overtime! blog, it also has another, very special meaning: HOOPS SEASON HAS ARRIVED!

Now just 72 hours from the start of a four-month whirlwind that culminates with March Madness, we prep for #NECTipoff by looking ahead at what’s in store for fans this coming season on the small screen.

The NEC released its own 23-game men’s and women’s basketball television package on Monday, and a historic one at that.  For the first time in its history, every game will be available nationally via ESPNU, ESPN3 or Fox College Sports. Through the league’s partnerships with various regional networks, NEC teams will receive 52 exposures as most games will air on multiple stations.

Other highlights of the NEC-TV package:

– Nine prime-time exposures
– Four NEC Tournament games
– Return of the “wildcard” game on the final day of the regular season
– Majority of the games to air in HD

Along with the NEC-produced package, the Overtime! blog staff has scanned TV listings near and far to find all the games that will feature NEC men’s basketball programs this season. The following list, which could grow, includes at least 31 games airing nationally or on regional networks.  This Friday alone, there are four games involving NEC teams, three of which are national broadcasts.  In the first college basketball game at the brand-new Barclays Center, LIU Brooklyn takes on Morehead State in the opener of the Barclays Center Classic.  Tipoff is at 5:45 pm on ESPN3.  Also on ESPN3, Mount St. Mary’s takes on Pitt at 6:00 pm, while Bryant travels to preseason #1 Indiana for an 8:00 pm tilt on the Big Ten Network.  For those with the sports pack on DirecTV or Dish Network, you can also view FDU at Xavier on FSN-Ohio at 7:00 pm.  The following day, three games from the annual Connecticut 6 Classic (Quinnipiac-Hartford, Sacred Heart-Yale and CCSU-Fairfield) will air on SNY.
