The Overtime! Weekly ‘Twitter Take Five’

Following your favorite NEC athlete or sportswriter on Twitter is an enjoyable experience, but can also become an overwhelming one.

With so many people to follow and so much information to digest, it isn’t always easy to manage. Hence, the Overtime! Blog’s Twitter Take Five, a new weekly feature that selects five of the most intriguing/significant Tweets from across the NEC and presents them to our fans right here on the Official Blog of the Northeast Conference.

THE RUNDOWN…

Tweet No. 5 – Jake Gronsky, Junior 2B, Monmouth baseball

Good advice by Gronsky, Monmouth’s talented yet humble all-NEC second baseman. Not sure exactly what kind of “steps” this .313 hitter has been taking, but we are pretty certain his “goal” is a 2013 Northeast Conference Baseball title and subsequent NCAA Regional appearance.

Tweet No. 4 – Keion Wade, Senior RB, Saint Francis football

An interesting take by Wade, but it’s hard to disagree with him. Fortunately for Wade, who has rushed for seven touchdowns already, there haven’t been too many “bad days” for Red Flash football this season. Saint Francis is off to a 2-1 start in NEC play for the first time in seven years.

Tweet No. 3 – Nelson Castillo, LIU Brooklyn Alumnus

The 2011-12 NEC basketball schedule provided a handful of opportunities for NEC hoops fanatics, like Nelson, to catch TWO games – one at LIU, one at St. Francis (NY) — in Brooklyn on the same day.  The proximity of the two schools’ campuses in relation to each other allow for one to visit both places in the same day should they be hosting games at different times. Unfortunately, there are no dates on the 2012-13 schedule that will allow Brooklyn basketball fanatics to enjoy a split double dip. With all that said, you have to love Nelly’s enthusiasm toward another season of NEC hoops.

Tweet No. 2 – Victoria Della Valle, Robert Morris cheerleader

Apparently, Primanti Bros. and Quaker Steak ‘N Lube aren’t the only good eats out there in Pittsburgh.  Never knew they had world-class scones out there.  We’ll have @NECralph confirm the quality of these scones after he tries one (or three) when he visits RMU’s Joe Walton Stadium for the Steel City Showdown on November 3. On a side note, the annual highly-anticipated gridiron matchup between Robert Morris and Duquesne will air live on national TV (Fox College Sports) as well as locally in Pittsburgh (Root Sports).

Tweet No. 1 – Khairi Dickson, Freshman RB, Saint Francis football

Definitely not a bad goal for Mr. Dickson.  Chances are, if your mom approves of something, you are doing the right thing. As for making mom proud, it is likely Dickson has already done that, especially considering the fact he has already been named NEC Rookie of the Week twice this season.

Yes, it is true. R&B/Hip-Hop artist WALE attended NEC member Robert Morris University. Here’s how he looked wearing a Colonials’ football jersey…

Also, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Robert Morris was a stop on WALE’s Ambition Tour last November.  If you’re having trouble connecting the name with the music, here’s radio version of one of his biggest hits…
