Following your favorite NEC athlete or sportswriter on Twitter is an enjoyable experience, but can also become an overwhelming one.
With so many people to follow and so much information to digest, it isn’t always easy to manage. Hence, the Overtime! Blog’s Twitter Take Five, a new weekly feature that selects five of the most intriguing/significant Tweets from across the NEC and presents them to our fans right here on the Official Blog of the Northeast Conference.
Tweet No. 5 – Brad Brach, San Diego Padres RP, Monmouth Alumunus
Gotta love the “Team First” attitude exuded by Brach in this Tweet, which came after the Padres 8-2 victory over Houston on July 17. Brach was obviously all smiles after this one, liekly a byproduct of pitching a hitless 7th inning and earning the hold. It was Brach’s second straight scoreless inning of work against Houston after the Dodgers’ Andre Either took him deep on July 14.
Tweet No. 4 – Mike Zacchio, Sportswriter for The Journal News (NY)
FYI, Both of the women mentioned in Zacchio’s Tweet just happen to call the Northeast Conference home. So, we are not surprised they are Fairleigh Dickinson’s Danielle McEwan and Sacred Heart’s Jackie Carbonetto both earned spots on the five-member All-Northeast Conference First Team in 2012 as well as NTCA All-America status. McEwan also added the NTCA National Bowler of the Year award to her resume. Oh, and they’ll both be back for the 2012-13 NCAA bowling campaign.
Tweet No. 3 – Quentin Anderson, Tampa Bay Bucs’ DE, Wagner Alumnus
The NFL Undrafted Free Agent signee was back on Grymes Hill recently, catching up with old teammates and coaches. As his Tweet implies, it’s time for Anderson to return to work down in Tampa. The former Wagner Seahawk will try to win a NFL roster spot when the Tampa Bay Bucs open training camp on July 26. We’ll be rooting for him and you should be, too!
Tweet No. 2 – Zac Bennett, Robert Morris Sophomore LB
This Tweet was delivered by the PONYexpress on the morning of July 18. The Robert Morris gridder is apparently is fooling around and is hard at work prepping for the 2012 season. And when you open in the FargoDome against defending NCAA National Champion North Dakota State, extra preparation sounds like a pretty good idea. The Colonials and Bison will kick off the 2012 campaign on Sept. 1. They last met in the 2010 NCAA FCS Playoffs wirth NDSU using a fourth-quarter surge to pull away for the win.
Tweet No. 1 – Julian Boyd, 2012 NEC MBB Player of Year, LIU Brooklyn
Boyd has this date circled on his calendar, and so should every college hoops fan in the NYC area. A little more than one month after Jay-Z opens Brooklyn’s brand-new Barclays Center with a string of eight concerts, the two-time defending NEC champion Blackbirds will take center stage in the arena’s first-ever college basketball tournament. The Barclay’s Center Classic is a multi-team, multi-venue hoops event that will tip off in Brooklyn on November 9. LIU will face Morehead State and Kentucky will tip off against Maryland.
