It was the same matchup as the 2011 title tilt, and it yielded a similar result. Facing No. 3 Robert Morris in the NEC Men’s Basketball Championship Game for the second year in a row, top-seeded LIU Brooklyn posted a 90-73 victory to earn its another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
LIU junior forward Julian Boyd followed up his NEC Player of the Year award by claiming Tournament MVP honors. The 6-foot-7 post player logged 18 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, sophomore point guard Jason Brickman notched a double-double, too, with 18 points and a title game record 11 assists.
There was a Dance Party on the corner on Ashland Place and Dekalb Ave. for a second straight year.

It was a night to remember for LIU in Brooklyn on Wednesday and SuperFan @NellyNel14 was there. The LIU Brooklyn Blackbird die-hard snapped a few photos, including this one (above) during the postgame Dance Party. And FYI, We here at Overtime! weren’t the only ones who thought this photo was a keeper. SportsNet New York anchor Kirk Gimenez (@KirkSNY) retweeted @NellyNel14 and added the comment “Great pic!”

@DCTViper89 – These guys are diving all over the place. Who wants it more? @necbbt
This outspoken Central fan clearly would have loved to see his Blue Devils playing for the NEC crown on Wednesday night, but none the less he felt the need to Tweet his appreciation for the hard play and effort Robert Morris and LIU put forth before a national TV audience on ESPN2.

The Robert Morris cheer team made the trip out east to support the Colonials on both Tuesday and Wednesday. After rooting on the ladies in Tuesday’s women’s hoops semifinal at Sacred Heart, RMU cheer took some time to enjoy the sites and sounds of the New York Metro Area prior to Wednesday’s men’s title tilt tip-off in Brooklyn. A Special #Overtime! shoutout to @AshMarie_B for sharing the above photo via Twitter!
