NEC News of Day: Tournament Final Matchups Set for Women’s Soccer & Field Hockey Plus Top Tweets

And so they meet again.

If this were a baseball series, Saturday’s impending showdown between Rider and Monmouth would be the rubber match.

The only pitch involved in this one, however, will be the field they play on.

The top-seeded Broncs took care of business against No. 4 seed Saint Francis (PA) only hours after No. 2 Monmouth blanked No. 3 Quinnipiac in 2011 NEC Field Hockey Tournament semifinal round competition.

The result is a third consecutive postseason meeting between Garden State rivals Monmouth and Rider.  This one will determine the NEC champion.  Watch it live on NortheastConference.TV beginning at 12:00 pm on November 5.

Meanwhile, in NEC Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinal round play, a pair of dramatic contests unfolded at DeGol Field on the campus of Saint Francis (PA) Friday.

The host Red Flash advance past Sacred Heart on penalty kicks following a double-overtime scoreless draw.

They will face Long Island in Sunday’s final.  They needed overtime, but the Blackbirds topped Monmouth, 2-1, on an awarded PK.
