NEC News of the Day: Monmouth Women’s Soccer Makes National Splash plus Your Top Tweets & News Links

On the same day that the program’s most-prestigious alumnae highlighted the awards ceremony at the 2011 NACWAA (National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators) Convention, Monmouth women’s soccer made more news.

The Hawks broke into the Adidas/NSCAA Northeast Regional rankings this week.  Monmouth earned the 10th place ranking in the weekly regional poll, which is currently led by Big East member Marquette.

Making the Monmouth’s achievement ever more impressive is the fact that Krissy Turner’s Hawks started the 2011 by dropping their first three contests.  Fueled by fine defensive play (the Hawks have allowed only six goals in the past nine games), MU has won eight of its last nine contests including a 4-0 start to Northeast Conference play.

While the team she once starred for arrived in the regional rankings, Christie (Pearce) Rampone was busy accepting the 2011 NACWAA Honor Award on behalf of the 1999 U.S. Women’s National Team that struck gold at the World Cup.

Rampone, an member of the NEC Hall of Fame’s inaugural class, addressed the annual NACWAA convention. (Read more about itNACWAA Convention: Day 3: Christie Rampone honored)

Just last week, NortheastConference.TV had an opportunity to catch up with Rampone at the old alma mater prior to her departing for the convention in Pittsburgh.  The exclusive interview will be released later this fall.
