The Northeast Conference new media department will spend the next few days on Monmouth’s campus in West Long Branch, NJ.
There, the staff will conduct exclusive interviews with two women who have made tremendous contributions to women’s athletics and the Northeast Conference.
Tying into the NEC’s year-long celebration of Title IX’s 40th anniversary, an effort that will be spearheaded former collegiate Division I student-athlete, and current NEC media relations intern, Amy Martin, the new media staff will sit down with Monmouth’s long-time director of athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil and US Women’s Soccer National Team captain Christie Rampone.
McNeil has served in a number of capacities on a national level. A former member of the Division I NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and the Management Council, McNeil completed her term as Chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee this past July.
McNeil, who has also served as President of NACWAA during her illustrious career, will now move into the role of President for the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), a post she will serve in for the 2011-12 academic year.
Rampone is a four-time World Cup veteran and was a member of the unforgettable 1999 championship team. She was a two-sport athlete at Monmouth after originally attending the Jersey Shore-based school as a basketball player.
Both McNeil and Rampone are active in fostering opportunity for young women in sports.
Release dates for the exclusive interviews have not yet been set.
